The new hub for Wormley and Turnford Big Local was officially opened on Saturday 18th July by local schoolgirl, Angel, winner of WTBL’s Christmas card design competition. She was assisted in the ribbon cutting ceremony by The Mayor of Broxbourne, Martin Greensmyth, and other guests of honour included Betty, runner-up in the Christmas competition.
The open house launch was well-attended and locals were keen to contribute to the ideas wall with suggestions for community events and ways for residents to get together. Children enjoyed games and competitions in the hub, and there was an added enticement of strawberries and cream!
The Big Local is a lottery funded initiative that supports resident-led projects which will create positive lasting changes to the local area and initially the hub will act as a point of contact for anyone who wants to know more. In the coming weeks, the hub will be open for part of the day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and the partnership is keen to recruit more volunteers so that opening times can be extended.
If you would like to be involved or you have an idea that would benefit the area, call in at the hub, visit the website, email or call.
